The Rundown: Val returns after years and wants answers.
Val remembers the events that took seven years from her. Events that brought her to the middle of the woods where the band she was covering murders her in a bizarre ritual. As she emerges, she wants answers and a pair of familiar faces will find her and bring her back to town and want answers the same as Val concerning her missing time.
After discovering that the band is no longer together, Val hears that one of the members is still playing with a local band in the area. After making a trip to visit this new band, the member recognizes Val and the pair have a dark and interesting encounter that will take Val on a new journey.
The Story: Azzarello crafts an intense and interesting story in this follow up issue. It does a great job of establishing the world and its characters while also crafting interesting and intense drama for Val as well. I love the buildup of tension throughout the story and the confrontation between Val and the member of the band is brilliantly executed both in suspense and execution.
The Art: Del Rey delivers some beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this series and how it balances the characters and the supernatural elements constantly at play in the margins and backgrounds.
